Kohli will lose 2 ODIs, 3 T20 against New Zealand

India captain Virat Kohli will miss the last two games of his team's five-game international series against New Zealand and the three matches of his Twenty20 series.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the governing body of Indian cricket, the BCCI, said that Kohli needs to rest.

"Considering their workload in recent months, the team management and the senior selection committee think it would be ideal for him to have an additional break before the local series against Australia," the BCCI statement said.

India will play five international matches a day and two international Twenty20 against Australia in a series that will begin at the end of February.

Rohit Sharma will be the captain of India in the absence of Kohli.

India won the opening match of the one-day series with eight wickets on Wednesday.
